Poke bonnet (capote), anonymous, c. 1805 - c. 1815 Canvas Print

Awning hat or capote with protruding awning and small wrinkled sphere, of quilted black silk and equipped with black satin ribbons. Model: consisting of sphere and loose edge, which is sewn to the sphere. At the back of the neck, a tunnel of approx. 2 cm has been installed above the hem, so that a black silk ribbon is laced that can be pulled and tied at the back. In the sphere are two narrow tunnels in which twinked rope, which can be pulled at will. (Opening on the back of the head on the inside of the sphere!) The awning is also quilted with wool and features 14 diagonally running tunnels in which twisted white rope. The awning is cordoned off all around with 5 tunnels in which twisted white rope. A black satin ribbon is sewn over the seam between the sphere and the awning.
