Fans packed the Wellmont Theater to see Collective Soul, the band who defined alternative-rock in the ’90s, on Saturday, Sept. 21. Lead singer E. Roland and the rest of the group, Dean Roland, Jesse Triplett, Johnny Rabb, and Will Turpin had the crowd moving.
E. Roland said the group was walking around Montclair near the Wellmont before the concert and purchased some records and books and ate some sushi.
The group performed for two hours, keeping fans engaged with their new singles — including “Now’s The Time” and “Right as Rain,” off the new album Blood — and older hits such as “The World I Know” and “Gel.” Fans cheered for performances of “Shine” and “December,” singing loudly with the band.
Coinciding with the concert a table was set up in the lobby to promote suicide awareness. Throughout the month of September, the Wellmont partnered with the Mental Health Association of Essex and Morris County, Inc. in recognition of National Suicide Prevention Month.
Opening for Collective Soul was rising alternative-rock band Sir Cadian Rhythm, consisting of lead vocalist Jack Weppler, guitarist Alex Laudani, bass guitarist Richie Cluxton, keyboardist and trombonist Matthew Carlin and drummer Micah Cowher.
