Friends don't let friends pour without mold release! Seriously folks, if you want your silicone mold to last as long as it possibly can, you NEED to use a non-silicone based mold release spray. Using a silicone based spray (like Apel, Stoner, SO Universal Release) isn't going to protect a silicone mold. Think of it like putting acrylic paint over acrylic paint... it's just going to make a thicker layer of paint, right? That's where the Smooth On / Mann Ease Release 200 comes in. It's made of magical stuff, but not silicone. Applying it liberally to your mold interior and letting it dry before pouring your resin is going to create a near-invisible barrier to help harsh epoxy resin from possibly bonding to, and damaging your silicone mold due to tear out during demolding. If you are a resin artist and want a glossier finish right out of your mold, consider the low-buildup Mann Ease Release 300 instead. Smooth-On Mann Ease Release 200 is an excellent general purpose release agent for making molds and casting parts; This product will release polyurethane elastomers, epoxy resin, polyester resins, RTV silicones, rubber, and thermoplastic polymers; Ease Release 200 is effective on aluminum, chrome, RTV silicone, epoxy, rubber, and steel molds; Fast drying. Effective over a broad temperature range from 70°F to 500°F; Precise duplication of mold details. Less rejects, faster production Matte finish. Why? It's an aerosolized product and possibly explosive, so putting it on a plane is a no no. 1. Which is not fun. Cool?
