[Rewarded Review] Not sure what the difference is between Ver 1 and 2
Huseinˇ Review provided by bhphotovideo.com ˇ September 12, 2024
Fan of SmallRig, have been pleased with almost everything I have purchased made by them. This is another winner. I also have this baseplate for my A7cII, which I felt needed a little something more for my hand. The A7RV has a better grip, so didn't feel this is a critical a need for this body. But now that I have it, do find that it does indeed improve the grip. One nice detail, is the plate has similar texturing to the A7RV grip, nice touch. So it doesn't feel like an add-on. I was keeping a tripod plate on my A7RV, but found it some situations shooting from a table handheld that it tilted my composition a little. And didn't 'rest' well when not in use. So this base plate improves on both those issue and does indeed improve the handhold-ability of the camera. Those are real pluses, especially since I tend to use my larger GM lenses with the this body. As the title states, not sure what the difference is between version 1 and 2 but this gets two thumbs up from me.
[Rewarded Review] Works great on the a7R V

I assumed it would fit the a7R V (since the IV and V share a vertical grip), and I'm happy to confirm that it's the case!

Oddly enough, it actually fits better than the Sony vertical grip (not that the Sony grip has a bad fit, this plate just lines up better). It feels very solid and natural in the hand, especially with bigger lenses. I shoot a lot of portrait shots, so I'll still have the vertical grip in my bag, but it's nice having a day-to-day configuration that's smaller and lighter.

Also, there's a little lever you pull forward for opening the battery door (so that it can open all the way). Felt intuitive to me (and worked perfectly on the a7R V), but I noticed a review where someone couldn't get the door open, so I thought I'd mention it.
[Rewarded Review] By far the best baseplate for A7IV

User Friendly: The grip is enhanced because of the increased length of the camera handle, and doesn't bring you different grip feeling while using; it feels like part of my camera. Rechargeable battery can still be easily opened and there is no need to mount the door of the battery compartment like previous baseplates

Non-Slip & Stable: The handle can improve the stability of the camera and reduce camera shaking. Specially designed leather grain increases friction without grinding hands. Enhance comfort when using the body and also protect the bottom of the camera body from wear and tear because of the generous padding used on the baseplate.

On the other side of the grip it has a very well polished curve that offers comfort when operating lens. All and all seems and feels like a quality product.
[Rewarded Review] Add's just enough

The Sony A7 IV is a tad heavy already. This adds a little more but creates room for my pinky to rest. The A7 IV is just a hair too short and my pinky slips off and is hard to hold in place. One of biggest complaints of the body next to my OM-1 which is perfect. Like I said though. This gives just enough extra grip.
