trains. more on what the transportation agency is saying about this next chapter for bart. and it was an unofficial celebration for 420. but now who's in charge of cleaning up? we sent our own amanda quintana to check out the scene, and she'll have a live report for us from ktvu. >> fox two news this is mornings on two. >> good morning to you and welcome to mornings on two. on this sunday, april 21st i'm claudine wong. >> happy weekend one and all. it is a sunday. and did you notice it's getting lighter. earlier days are getting a little longer. we're getting into god's hours. you can actually see outside and it's lovely. let's check in with rosemary now and get your forecast on this sunday morning. yes a partly cloudy start to the day temperatures. >> not too bad and it would be get into the afternoon. we're looking at warmer weather for today. yes we have. temperatures are actually going into the low 80s for today. wasn't sure what word i wanted to use. giving you a live look here at storm tracker two. just a little bit of fog there along the coastline and inside the gate this
7:02 am
morning. temperatures are very similar to yesterday morning. we've got 40s and 50s and our winds once again, generally light, even calm over santa rosa and novato. concord good morning to you. a gentle breeze at about six three miles, 3 to 6mph over there. and your temperatures are a few degrees warmer as well. sfo oakland up by three degrees. palo alto one of the cooler spots this morning looking at 48 for you outside your door. low 50s in san francisco. upper 40s for the inner east bay of livermore. so for today we are looking at temperatures again above average by five, even ten degrees or so. still expect for our inland cities to peak tomorrow before we cool it down a better look at today, tomorrow and the week ahead. coming up. >> okay. thank you rosemary. well, thousands of people flocked to san francisco's hippie hill for this weekend for a 420 celebration. and that big crowd gathered despite the fact that the official marijuana event had been canceled this year. so what's it look like? this morning we sent our own
7:03 am
amanda quintana to golden gate park to check out the aftermath. and amanda, how are we looking this day after the not bad, not bad at all. >> claudine. so there is one person cleaning up just one person. and when we got here, there was some scattered trash. oh look, we've got a second person. never mind. we've got a second trash bag out to clean up some of the little things that were left behind. really, it was not that bad when we got here. maybe like some bags, some trash from food, but it's pretty clean. so that is good. now of course the official event did not happen, but there was very much an unofficial event here. the crowd was smaller though than years past when they had live bands, concessions and other entertainment. this year the usual organizer could not get the level of sponsorship needed from the cannabis industry, so they could not have the official event. but attendees said even though it wasn't as lively, that was fine with them.
7:04 am
>> just because they're not an official event doesn't mean that for 20 revelers are going to stay away from hippie hill, so there are plenty of those, but they are all up on the hill itself, which is a spectator area for the volo field day. everybody is sharing the space really nicely, there have been zero problems rouz no arrests, no citations, nobody going to the hospital. >> even though there was no official event, the city's parks and rec department did still coordinate with organizations like fire, police and ems. they said it was just on a smaller scale. so there was still an ambulance here, just in case. there were some resources here, just in case they were needed. but like you heard that last sound bite, there wasn't really anything necessary. it was a smaller group, she said. it was more like if it was just a beautiful day out and a lot of people decided to gather here. so there is a bit of a cleanup going on here. but again, just not bad at all. it is pretty
7:05 am
clean here, which is nice to see live in san francisco. amanda quintana, ktvu, fox two news, and i'm sure the city of san francisco feels the same way. >> amanda, thank you for that. a big heads up for those commuting tomorrow morning on the golden gate ferry service between san francisco and sausalito, because that remains suspended indefinitely. the ferry service making that announcement on friday night after a routine inspection of the pier in sausalito, uncovered a type of structural problem. it did not reveal the specifics, though, of that problem. so busses have now replaced the ferries that normally run between the two cities until further notice. this will affect both golden gate ferry and the golden blue fleet as well, and caltrans is reminding drivers in the north bay that all westbound lanes of highway 37 between vallejo and the sears point turnoff are still closed due to a major repaving project. at this video, caltrans sent out showing us some of the work that was completed yesterday. that stretch of highway is scheduled
7:06 am
to remain shut down until 4:00 tomorrow morning. westbound lanes will close again next weekend for that same project, and the eastbound direction of highway 37 will be closed during the first two weekends of the month of may. >> well, bart marked the end of an era for its legacy fleet cars. the agency commemorated one last ride in the east bay with a festival at macarthur station that included food trucks, a raffle, activities for kids, and pop up merchandise for sale. ktvu is alice wirtz has more. >> in 1972, these bart cars were shiny and brand new. >> the retirement of bart's legacy rail car fleet, an occasion that signifies the end of an era and the beginning of a new chapter in our transit journey. >> saturday, the final run for the first fleet ever. >> it is very disappointing that this is going to be their last run. what's very special is that we get to experience these cars for the last time as their final hurrah and their final sendoff.
7:07 am
>> there was a large turnout of legacy employees as well. jay bolt worked for 25 years as an operator and station agent. >> original employee badge. >> he says bart has managed to stay on track with the changes over the years. >> well, the society is changing and the normal 9 to 5 commute is not what it was. so bart's going to have to innovate to keep showing people why bart is the better choice for getting around the bay area, and there have been lots of changes in the past 52 years for bart. >> this operator has been here for over 22 technology. >> you know, and passengers, you know, covid changed a lot as far as the trains are concerned. the technology, state of the art, everything is software driven now, you know, versus analog like it used to be. >> there are six projects that will use the old trains one an airbnb in the sierra, another in east oakland for the oakland scraper bike team. >> our bart car is a place and is going to create safe spaces for youth. we're going to have a space where kids come fix their
7:08 am
bikes. we're going to be teaching them different bike program curriculum, such as bike safety, bike mechanics, bike customization. >> there were lots of items for sale, including original bart train car number signs, $50 a piece, a bit of a small price to pay for a bit of transit history in the bay in oakland. alice wirtz ktvu, fox two news well, los angeles at least 14 people were injured after a tram crashed at the universal studios hollywood theme park. >> it happened on saturday night at one of the boulevards. the los angeles fire department says the tram was taking people to and from their cars in the parking lot. they say 13 people had minor injuries, but one person had more severe injuries. the cause of that crash is still unknown. >> time now is 708. investigators say an alternative method used to track someone trying to get away from law enforcement actually helped lead to an arrest in the east bay. they say. 18 year-old terrence evans was arrested in oakland on
7:09 am
wednesday after taking off in a suspected stolen car in san lorenzo. these are images taken from the air as alameda sheriff's deputies caught up with him. they say deputies managed to dart the vehicle with a tracking device and that allowed investigators to keep up with the vehicle without engaging in a potentially dangerous pursuit. evans has been charged with reckless driving and resisting arrest. the oakland police department is mourning the death of an officer who was critically injured on duty almost six years ago, the department says. >> officer jordan wingate died saturday surrounded by his family, including his father, a retired oakland police captain. his law enforcement career began as an opd cadet back in 2013. he joined the force in 2017 and was named rookie of the year in 2018 by the oakland police officers association. the department says he was known for his hard work and the smile he always had on his face. police say back in 2018, when wingate was only 22, he was responding to a call about a suspicious person near
7:10 am
the port of oakland. he crashed into a car and then careened into a parked big rig. officer wingate is the 55th oakland police officer to die in the line of duty. the department says funeral plans will be shared once they are finalized. >> city officials are calling for an investigation into the zoo in san francisco after a troubling report was published. last week, the chronicle published an investigative piece that uncovered a very close call between a grizzly bear and a zookeeper and the death of a young penguin. city's joint zoo committee, now calling for a full probe into the safety concerns and plans to meet with union representing those zoo employees. coming up, tesla cutting the prices of electric vehicles worldwide. the very latest strategy shift for that company after some weak sales. >> it's about time we did some renovations on here. >> it's going to be hard because i don't go to another library. >> overdue repairs and renovations are coming to oakland's main library, but
7:11 am
regulars at that downtown branch say they are sad to see the community resource temporarily shutting its doors. >> and our warming trend will continue for your afternoon today, giving you a live look there up above the low clouds in san francisco. have a better look at what we can expect for today and the

all part of a major renovation project as ktvu zac sos reports, a number of regular library goers are not exactly excited about that. news >> it's a bummer. >> i'm sad that they're closing down the library that is temporarily panama, one of the younger patrons of the main branch of the oakland public library. i hope that they make it better. >> that's the plan, at least starting may 27th, the downtown library shutting its doors until at least november for a, quote, critical repairs. >> it's great that they're doing renovations, but six months doordash edmond, who regularly uses the library with her son, not alone in wondering why so long staff say that's the time needed to complete all the work, including a new roof, boiler system and upgrades to the building's electrical heating and cooling systems. >> my thought is it's necessary. i think that this is an older
7:15 am
and authentic library. i've been coming here since i'm 60. i've been coming here since i was like four, and it's about time we did some renovations. >> brian compton also looking forward to some more obvious esthetic improvements in store for the library. new lighting, flooring and ceilings. he just like to see one more area get a little tlc. >> the restrooms aren't horrible conditions. >> well, the work is underway. patrons will have to head to other branches. it's going to be hard. >> my son likes to come here all the time. it's peaceful, relaxing, you know, it's a very good resource for those who are doing studies and doing work projects. >> the library is fun to look at , new books and things that i haven't seen before. >> among the many reasons this library will be sorely missed over the next few months, but perhaps we all just need to look at the project the way panama is. >> sometimes it helps just to close things out for a little bit, just to like help it grow and make it better than it was before. for
7:16 am
>> and that was zac sos reporting. the library is planning to fund the project through a variety of sources, including a $4.2 million grant that came from the state. and if all goes well, libraries should be back open sometime in november. in the meantime, staff says other branch libraries will be operational, including the asian library, just about a half a mile away. >> hourly workers at the volkswagen plant in chattanooga, tennessee, have voted to join the united auto workers union. 73% of the 3600 workers at that plant voted on friday in favor of joining the uaw. it's a major breakthrough in the union's effort to organize workers at plants nationwide, especially in the south, which has a much lower level of union representation. volkswagen says it will await certification of the results, which are expected to come within the next week. and tesla is knocking off $2,000 off the prices of three of its vehicles. the company, which makes the top selling electric vehicle in the us, is cutting the prices of the model y, s and
7:17 am
x. that move comes as sales drop for tesla in its most recent quarter. that's the first time in years tesla also dropped the price of its full self driving software from 12,000 to $8000. >> we have an update now on a story we first brought you last month about an oakland woman's effort to get her car back after it was towed and held for unpaid fees. jade burnett had been living in that car with her nine year old daughter and 17 year old son, who has autism, a pastor with west side missionary baptist church in oakland stepped in and helped her get her car back, and then helped her get another car. and we've learned burnett has now secured housing for her and her kids. she says she is grateful for the help that she's received and is looking forward to a new start. so a nice, happy ending there for sure. >> yes. all right. time now is 717 and let's talk about our weather. if you thought yesterday was nice. rosemary is delivering up a great forecast for you today as well. >> yes, even a little toasty for some. we're talking about low

80s. good morning to both of you. happy sunday everybody. we do have low clouds joining us once again this morning giving you a live look there over the oakland estuary where it looks mighty gray from this vantage point. but you can see the sunshine there kind of bouncing off the buildings and part. and the boats there in the alameda bay. storm tracker two here it's a quiet one and we do expect again, temperatures to be well above average for today. but i want to show you changes coming our way by tomorrow afternoon. it looks like that onshore flow is going to return. you can kind of see the upper level flow coming from this direction. that is going to begin to cool things down. so originally it looked like tomorrow would be the warmest day. now it looks like it's probably going to be today. we will begin to see temperatures drop, especially along the coastline. perhaps inside the bay by tomorrow afternoon. although we're going to remain above average. that changes as we get farther into the workweek. right now it looks like the thursday friday time frame. do you see what's dropping in to the pacific northwest and moving into

democrats will never shy away from being a leader on the global stage and do what is necessary to overcome threats to freedom. well that foreign aid package also includes a measure that paves the way for a possible ban on tiktok in the u.s. >> yesterday, the house advanced a bill that would force tiktok's chinese owner to sell the popular social media platform within nine months or face a nationwide ban. supporters of the bill say tiktok poses a threat to u.s. security due to its strong ties to the chinese government, but critics say the proposed ban is a violation of free speech. up next, jewish gathering places and synagogues will get an extra layer of security this week. >> more on the timing of that order and why the fbi is involved. and forget about i just doing your work now. >> it can be you at work. how you can create a digital clone to lighten your workload, and a quick reminder that you can now stream ktvu news using our new tv app. you can watch live

into monday because this is going to be a transition day. we're going to start out feeling very similar to today. a high clouds over parts of the bay area, a little bit of patchy fog out there. but as we get into 1:00 or so, notice what is coming in from the south. this surge is going to work its way up the coastline. so depending on the timing, if it hits us sooner than later, our coastline, our bayside communities will definitely feel the difference. our inland communities may be. maybe on tuesday we will see temperatures come down just slightly, but it's going to take a little bit longer for you to have that influence move overhead. here's a look at monday night a little bit of drizzle there, the low clouds moving back into the north bay inside the bay as well. so again today likely to be the warmest day for many of us tomorrow. our inland cities away from that influence may have another warm day coming. temperatures across the bay area right now 54 degrees in san francisco, upper 40s in livermore, santa rosa, checking in at 48. a little chilly for

hangs over the city and the bay, but it is shaping up to be a gorgeous day, a continuation of the beautiful weekend that we've been seeing so far. welcome to mornings on two. on this sunday, april 21st, i'm claudine wong. good morning. >> good morning one and all. happy sunday. let's get you outside at the 8:00 hour talk a little weather with rose marie. what? looks like a pretty nice day. a hot one. >> yes. it's going to be warm out there. low 80s for some of our inland communities. yeah, that might catch you off guard. yeah yes. it's been a while. summer. that's exactly what is coming our way. as we get into the afternoon for our inner east bay, as well as the north bay around the bay, our communities will be in the 70s and san francisco today expected to hit 69. a live look here from ktvu. and you can see the low clouds there as we look off towards the oakland coliseum. we do have partly cloudy skies this morning , followed by mostly sunny for our afternoon. the winds are light across the bay area. a weak onshore breeze through fairfield at ten miles per hour, so in our temperatures are very similar to where we were when we

started saturday morning. 51 degrees right now in livermore. brentwood at 64, a mild one for you already at this time. and as you take a look at what we're expected to go for the afternoon today, compared to where we typically should be 81 degrees in santa rosa, that's 11 degrees above average, san francisco, above average by about six. a better look at the numbers for today and the cool down coming our way in the extended forecast. coming up. >> all right. thank you rosemary. well topping our news at eight. many bay area ferry riders now need to find another way to cross the bay. ferry service between sausalito and san francisco has been suspended indefinitely because of an issue with the pier there. ktvu amanda quintana joining us live from sausalito this morning with details on the issues that they're seeing. amanda >> yeah. so service is suspended until further notice. you can see that there's this big sign beside me trying to let people know that they cannot get on the
8:03 am
ferry here in sausalito to go to san francisco. so this includes service from golden gate ferry and blue and gold ferry, both of them suspended until further notice. now, we do not know when it's going to start again. you can see there is caution tape up in front so people cannot walk up onto the pier and the only real information we have is that this sign says there is a structural compromise. we did ask leaders at the golden gate ferry more about the damage, but they really wouldn't specify what it is or how long this might take. but again, you can't walk onto the pier right now. there also is it's hard to see because it's bright out here from the sun, but there also is a crane at the end of the pier here, but we can't really tell what it's working on, what it's going to be doing out there at the end of the pier. so what's going to happen is, if you need to get from sausalito to san francisco, they are running a
8:04 am
bus service, so you could take a bus to san francisco instead. if you are a commuter, this will be different. this will be very different. you know, something that you're going to have to think of going into monday morning. they have been running that bus this weekend, but the golden gate ferry says they're going to put out more information about the bus schedule through the week. but it does look like it's expected to run the same time that the ferry would usually run. so we're going to see one of those busses today go from sausalito to san francisco. and then assuming way more of them are going to have to go back and forth during the week. so again, if you're a commuter, this is something you should know. do not come here thinking you're going to get on the ferry. you will have to get on a bus to go to san francisco live in sausalito. amanda quintana ktvu, fox two news. >> all right. thank you. amanda well, caltrans is reminding drivers in the north bay that all westbound lanes of highway

planet that led the company to what is now the juice beauty farm in sonoma county. when we bought the farm, the goal was to have it. the gb farm. as a center for inspiration, a center for innovation but also to grow ingredients. they discovered the farm was also home to two rare grapes, sino and thalia seino grape has one of the highest antioxidant levels already. so when we hired a uc davis researcher because the big grape center is there, he went crazy there. karen and her team at juice beauty worked with the researcher to grow and ferment the grapes to have the highest levels of antioxidants. then they began infusing it into a super grape serum. antioxidants fight free radicals, that means goodbye, wrinkles, betterskin less dark spots. everything we want. the juice. speedy line also includes makeup. they have a team of chemists working on

just the right formulas to meet the needs of customers looking for high quality products, but again with no chemicals we use crushed roses. we use eggplant for our eyeliners and mascara. we use the deep black from argon , and then we use the deep purple for purple carrot, and when you blend it, it really creates a rich black. so we use all plant pigments so have been tested for safety and sensitivity. i happen to land an internship, um, in the makeup industry, fell in love with it and knew that's what i was going to do after i graduated because we're using organic, um, ingredients as well as naturally derived. every production batch is different, because, like in nature, no. two apples are the exact same shade. um so we have to adjust for that. those organic ingredients are found in every beauty product. you know what's fun up here at the farm. we put it in our glass and drink

we're like it's dog treats. there's like it's a lot of people. people do it like a lot of fun, master. is it so fun to see? we're pretty proud to explain what is the mishka? actually mishka dog treats are made fresh every day in their kitchen in marin county, where it feels like a big family. olia's mum is a trained chef and helped inspire olia to cook and her childhood friend from crimea is now creating beautiful, unique pate cakes. i saw happy face. i saw how the love our cakes. they are eating like a like a like a child eating sweet, you know? five. he for today. a lot of customers start with a birthday or a special occasion. they come back because they haven't found anything else . quite like mishka. he loves the treats. they don't upset us like sensitive stomach and he can eat as many as he wants, um, until he gets chubby, but

whenever our dogs are having upset stomach, uh, we can always count on mishka trees to make them feel better. ortiz harrison was looking for special treats for her dog and ended up finding a place where she could take her dog to work. and as soon as we park she will basically like, pull me all the way to the store . they're definitely her favorite treat, even though like she gets some, uh, like every week, multiple times a week. she always like will pick it over any other tree. it's not just treats. mishka also has fresh meatballs and soft jerky. if you see them closer, they look soft and chewy inside. which means that dogs are not scratching the th or stomach. so where does the name come from? olia says. that's a funny story. there he just say, come to say hi, and he's a big, tall, handsome. and uh, to say hi. i say hi. i've been so shy my english by the way was so bad. i didn't. i didn't speak full english at

it's your your seller's permit your business license city of oakland permit so having to learn about that, just on on the fly, just going like ok, now they even have a store on fruitvale, a and they have done it all as a family. their son, cesar was a baby when the ford started oakland zone and he has literally grown up with the business. you'll fold the t-shirt. he's giving out business cards and stick you he's telling you about the this this exactly. he's trying to give ideas out. but it's also teaching our son that you know, you can go for what you're looking for. if you have a dream or an aspiration, that's something that you can be able to take on and build and grow from there. they are also teaching and trying to inspire the community. some of their design. send a message. you noticed that i, i think, man, we're all dealing with. um, if you're not familiar, it's just basically stop breaking our car windows and running through our car, taking our cell phone charges and things of that
